Priority Waste Driver / Operative

Hours of work: Tues – Sat, 6:30 – 14:30
Belfast City Council is seeking motivated and reliable individuals to join our City Services (Resources and Fleet) team as a Priority Waste Driver / Operative.
This is an important frontline role supporting the cleanliness, safety, and appearance of Belfast through priority waste collection, cleansing operations, and environmental services.
The Role
- Driving council vehicles and operating safely within daily routes and schedules
- Collecting and transporting priority waste including bulky household items, fridge freezers, and recyclable materials
- Carrying out priority cleansing duties including:
- Street cleansing
- Graffiti and fly-poster removal
- Gum removal
- Street furniture washing
- Land clearance and street washing
- Supporting general waste collection and street cleansing services when required
- Completing all relevant paperwork, driver checks, and incident reporting documentation
- Ensuring compliance with health and safety legislation and council procedures
- Working effectively as part of an operational team in a public-facing environment
- Assisting with emergency and seasonal duties including snow clearance and gritting operations
Essential Criteria
- Hold a full current Category C1 driving licence
- Hold a valid Driver CPC Qualification Card
- Demonstrate at least 6 months’ experience in:
- Driving within a commercial or public sector environment
- Dealing directly with members of the public
Applicants must also successfully complete a driving assessment as part of the recruitment process.

Desirable Advantage
Candidates with at least 1 year’s commercial or public sector driving experience may be prioritised at shortlist stage.
