Our Crown Court Clerks are essential to ensure Crown Court hearings run smoothly. They have the self‑assurance to speak in court, communicate confidently with the Judge and all participants, and the skill to produce accurate and timely Court documents. Our Crown Court Clerk training programme provides a structured yet flexible approach to building the skills required to perform this vital role.

About you

This unique position requires high emotional resilience, active listening, confident communication, and the ability to work in a team to ensure the smooth running of Crown Courts daily. You will handle time‑critical documentation, produce orders, record outcomes, and adapt to new systems and technologies.

Skills and experience

  • Able to speak publicly and within a court room environment.
  • Excellent communication, organisational, and prioritisation skills.
  • Ability to complete documents accurately and to deadlines.
  • IT proficiency with the ability to learn and adapt to different technologies and software packages.

Working arrangements

Standard full‑time working hours are 37 hours per week. Part‑time, flexible and job‑sharing working patterns will be considered in accordance with the MoJ’s Flexible Working policy. Minimum hours for part‑time are 32 hours per week over five days.

Location

There are four posts: one post at Preston Combined Court (PR1 2LL) with training at Burnley Combined Court, two posts at Preston Combined Court with training at Preston Combined Court, and one Greater Manchester Court Clerk at Manchester Crown Court, Crown Square (M3 3FL) with training at that site.
