Ward Clerk Critical Care
Band 2
We are looking for a motivated and positive Ward Clerk to join our Critical Care unit. The role involves supporting the unit and its patients, families, and staff, working shifts from 0700 to 2000 Monday to Friday, with occasional weekend work.
The Ward Clerk team supports the unit and is integral to the smooth running and positive experiences of our staff, patients, and visitors.
Responsibilities
- Support the unit’s daily operations, ensuring smooth workflow for staff, patients, and visitors.
- Work shifts covering 0700 to 2000 Monday to Friday and occasionally on weekends.
- Maintain accurate administrative records and assist with patient admissions, transfers, and discharges.
- Provide timely clerical and customer‑facing support in a fast‑paced environment.
Person Specification
Knowledge and Experience
- Previous reception or customer‑facing experience in a healthcare or public setting.
- Clerical/administration experience including filing and reception.
- Previous NHS experience.
Skills and Abilities
- Able to work under pressure and meet deadlines while maintaining a high standard of accuracy.
- Able to communicate clearly and act quickly in an emergency.
- Good IT skills including Microsoft packages.
- Tidy and methodical working practice.
- Ability to work effectively in a busy team, adjust to change, and motivate others.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Confidence to handle difficult conversations with patients, relatives, and carers.
Qualifications and Training
- Educated to GCSE grade C or above in English Language and Maths.
