Wessex Internet is expanding rapidly across Dorset, Wiltshire, and the New Forest, delivering full fibre broadband to rural areas. We are looking to engage self‑employed Civils Operatives (entry‑level / non‑skilled) to support our delivery teams on site.
This is a practical, hands‑on opportunity for individuals looking to gain experience in civils, utilities, or telecoms, working outdoors as part of a structured crew.
The Opportunity
You’ll work alongside experienced operatives and team leaders, supporting the installation of fibre infrastructure across rural environments. No prior civils experience is required, but you must be reliable, physically capable, and willing to learn quickly.
This role is offered on a self‑employed basis, meaning you are responsible for your own tax, National Insurance, and insurances.
Scope of Work
- Assisting with excavation, duct laying, and reinstatement
- Supporting plant operators and drilling / mole plough teams
- Manual tasks including digging, backfilling, and material handling
- Site set‑up and clear‑down
- Following instructions from supervisors and team leaders
- Maintaining safe working practices at all times
- Flagging any site issues or hazards

Requirements

- Reliable, punctual, and able to follow instruction
- Full UK driving licence preferred (not essential but advantageous)

- UTR number (or willingness to register as self‑employed)
Desirable (not essential)
- CSCS card
- Basic construction or labouring experience
- Any exposure to civils, utilities, or groundwork
