Overview

Location: Kauri Coast, New Zealand. Duration: Minimum 8 weeks.

Cost: $2,900 USD for the first two weeks + $330 for each week thereafter. Fee includes all food, accommodation, pre‑departure and in‑country support, orientation and all project related activities. Does not include flights, travel insurance, personal spending, visas and vaccinations.

This internship is with a non‑profit organization located in the cloud‑forest of Tutamoe Peak in Northland, New Zealand, working with the Department of Conservation to protect and monitor endangered species.

Responsibilities

  • Receive extra training and mentoring to develop skills to lead a small team of volunteers.
  • Plan and coordinate activities, including preparation, new volunteer training, and safety procedures.
  • Assist with building access trails, protecting native species from invasive pests, planting native trees, and monitoring pest numbers.
  • Support the project’s goals to restore protected natural ecosystems and create an enduring experience for all involved.
  • Learn and apply basics of setting up a similar not‑for‑profit organization from design to accounting and marketing strategies.
