About Haringey

Haringey is a fantastic place to live and work – the world in one borough. A place brimming with creativity, personality, radicalism, and community. It is a place where we stand up for each other, and proudly distinctive. We’ll be celebrating all this and more as the “rebel borough” when we are the 2027 London Borough of Culture. Our history champions change‑makers and everyday rebels; we revel in our differences, battle discrimination, champion equality, and do things our own way. Haringey’s people are a huge asset, with knowledge, expertise, and passion. Our staff embody our organisational values: Caring, Creative, Courageous, Collaborative and Community‑focused. These values keep us looking forward, ambitious for the future, and continuously striving to do our very best for all of our residents.

Job Description

The London Borough of Haringey, a values‑driven local authority, has recently taken direct management of its leisure centres. To support our vision of community wellbeing, we are recruiting lifeguards to join our new leisure team. We offer both full‑time and part‑time roles with flexible working hours, making this an ideal opportunity to contribute to our Active Wellbeing brand. Our mission is to encourage people to lead more active lifestyles, with a particular focus on engaging those who may be less active. As a member of our team, you’ll play a key role in promoting this goal by helping customers try new activities and guiding them in using our facilities.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure the safety of patrons across a variety of leisure facilities.
  • Maintain the cleanliness of changing rooms, showers, health suites, and other areas.
  • Set up equipment in sports halls, studios, and play areas.
  • Prepare venues for social events and report any maintenance issues to keep our facilities running smoothly.

The Team

As a member of the leisure team, you’ll play a key role in increasing activity levels within Haringey’s diverse community. Working on a rota that covers all leisure centre opening hours, including evenings and weekends, you’ll be supported by an on‑site management team dedicated to your success. The team will develop new programmes and facilities in collaboration with local stakeholders such as sports clubs, community groups, governing bodies, and professional organisations. This collaborative approach aims to achieve nationally recognised leisure industry awards for exceptional service quality. We’re committed to excellence in community health and wellbeing.

Qualifications

  • Valid RLSS Lifeguard qualification.
  • In‑depth knowledge of guidelines related to maintaining a safe and clean leisure centre environment.
  • Professional and caring customer interaction skills.
  • Ability to work as part of a team and thrive in a dynamic environment.

About You

We are looking for motivated individuals eager to build a career in the leisure industry. If you’re hard‑working, committed to delivering high‑quality service, inclusive in your approach, and thrive in a team environment, we’d love to welcome you to our team.

Benefits

31 days leave entitlement plus bank holidays; potential hybrid working opportunities; health and wellbeing support; a generous local government pension scheme; discount schemes across leisure and culture providing financial savings.

Workplace Culture

We are committed to creating a workplace culture where all our people feel valued, included, and able to be their best at work. We welcome applications from all ethnicities and communities to help us make a difference to our residents and community.
