Responsibilities

  • To be responsible and accountable for the overall clinical and operational day-to-day delivery of clinical standards of care and the management of the nursing workforce, in accordance with set objectives, targets, quality standards, controls and resource constraints.
  • Contribute to the development, delivery and evaluation of the Paediatric strategy within the context of the Integrated Care System.
  • Ensure a robust professional approach to service development and improvement, supporting any subsequent changes to structures, services and roles with appropriate support and ongoing professional development.
  • Support the Assistant Director of Nursing to provide professional leadership and management for the development, implementation and monitoring of the Strategy for Nursing & Midwifery.
  • Ensure that effective systems of work are in place to ensure safe delivery of evidence-based patient care.
  • Support effective patient flows and management of bed resources in the Trust.
  • Develop and maintain communication with people on complex matters, issues, ideas and/or in complex situations.
  • Develop self and contribute to the development of others.
  • Maintain and develop an environment and culture that improves health, safety and security.
  • Appraise, interpret and apply suggestions, recommendations and directives to improve services.
  • Contribute to improving quality and safety through incidents, PSIRF and complaint management.
  • Promote equality and diversity.
  • Plan, deliver and evaluate interventions or treatments when there are complex issues and/or serious illness.
  • Test and review new concepts, models, methods, practices, products and equipment using QI methodology.
  • Coordinate, monitor and review the use of finance.
  • Plan, develop, monitor and review the recruitment, deployment and management of people, facilitating the development of capacity and demand modelling.
  • Ensure responsibility for patient care, including monitoring, diagnostics and investigations.
  • Provide professional leadership to the multi-disciplinary team.
  • Ensure that there are strategies in place to enhance the patient’s experience in line with local and national agendas.
  • Work closely with public and users of service so that health and wellbeing can be promoted and implemented.
  • Lead on the management of risk and escalation process.
