Bath Gateway Out and About seeks a passionate trustee to help shape inclusive social opportunities for adults with learning disabilities. Join a friendly board, support a valued local charity, and use your skills to strengthen impact, governance and future growth.
What difference will you make?
A new trustee will bring valuable support, perspective and energy to Bath Gateway Out & About. Your contribution will help strengthen the board’s capacity to guide the charity effectively, make informed strategic decisions and support our long‑term sustainability.
By joining the board, the trustee will help us continue developing opportunities for adults with learning disabilities to build friendships, take part in community life and reduce social isolation. Their input will support us to respond to challenges, identify new opportunities and ensure the charity remains ambitious, resilient and responsive to the needs of the people we support.
An additional trustee will broaden the skills, experience and viewpoints around our board table, helping us think creatively, challenge constructively and make stronger decisions. This will support our ongoing work around growth, partnerships, fundraising and future planning, while helping ensure good governance as the organisation evolves.
The impact of this role goes beyond 6 weekly board meetings. A trustee’s ideas, insight and support can help strengthen the charity’s future direction and increase the reach and quality of what we do. Their involvement can help us build capacity, raise our profile and ultimately support more people to access inclusive social opportunities that improve confidence, independence and wellbeing.
Most importantly, this role helps sustain and strengthen a charity that makes a real difference in people’s lives. Through their contribution, a trustee will help ensure Bath Gateway Out & About can continue creating welcoming, supportive opportunities for adults with learning disabilities now and into the future.
What are we looking for?
We are looking for a trustee who shares our commitment to inclusion and improving opportunities for adults with learning disabilities, and who is enthusiastic about contributing to the future of a small but impactful charity.
We welcome applications from people with a broad range of backgrounds and experiences, and we are particularly interested in hearing from individuals who can bring lived experience of learning disability, either personally, as a family member, carer or advocate. We believe these perspectives are invaluable in helping shape an inclusive, responsive and person‑centred organisation.
We are looking for someone who can contribute thoughtfully to discussions, work collaboratively as part of a board and bring curiosity, good judgement and a willingness to support and challenge constructively.
Experience in the following areas
- Human Resources or people management (particularly welcomed)
- Charity governance or leadership
- Fundraising or income generation
- Community engagement or partnership development
- Finance, business planning or strategic development
- Experience within health, social care, education or the voluntary sector
Attributes we value
- Cares about our mission and wants to make a meaningful difference
- Can think strategically and contribute ideas for the charity’s future
- Is willing to engage actively with board discussions and decision‑making
- Brings a collaborative and supportive approach
- Is open to learning and contributing their skills in a practical way
We are especially keen to diversify our board and welcome applications from people whose voices are often under‑represented in governance roles. You do not need previous trustee experience to apply — we value commitment, perspective and potential as much as formal board experience.
While HR experience would be particularly useful to the board at this time, it is not essential, and we encourage anyone who feels they could contribute to our work to express interest. For us, the most important qualities are shared values, a commitment to inclusion, and a genuine desire to help Bath Gateway Out & About thrive.

What will you be doing?
Bath Gateway Out & About is seeking a new trustee to join our committed and friendly board. Our board brings together a range of experience and perspectives, and we are looking to strengthen this further as we continue to develop and grow our impact. We would preferably like someone who can demonstrate lived experience of learning disabilities.
We support adults with learning disabilities to access social, leisure and community activities, helping reduce isolation and create opportunities for friendship, confidence and independence. As demand for inclusive community support continues to grow, we are focused on ensuring the charity remains sustainable, responsive and ambitious for the future.
We are looking for a trustee who will play an active role in shaping this special charity. As a member of the board, you will contribute to strategic discussions, help guide decision‑making and support the leadership team in delivering our goals. Depending on your interests and experience, there may also be opportunities to support specific projects or join sub‑groups focused on areas such as fundraising, development, governance or community engagement.
This is an opportunity to help influence the future of a well‑established local charity with a strong reputation and a clear social purpose. We welcome trustees who want to contribute ideas, challenge constructively and help us think creatively about opportunities ahead.
For a new trustee, this is a chance to be part of a small but impactful organisation where your contribution will be visible and valued. You will help shape services that make a real difference in people’s lives, support an organisation rooted in inclusion and community, and help implement positive change.
The role is important because the decisions made by the board directly support the charity’s ability to grow, innovate and continue providing meaningful opportunities for adults with learning disabilities. Joining now offers the chance to contribute at a time when thoughtful governance and fresh perspectives can help shape an exciting future for the organisation.
