Job Responsibilities
- Manage a diverse clinical caseload and deliver high-quality patient‑centred care across a broad spectrum of health needs.
- Work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team to ensure the highest standards of clinical care and service delivery.
- Make professional autonomous decisions in relation to presenting problems, whether self‑referred or referred from other health care workers.
- Assess the health care needs of patients with undifferentiated and undiagnosed problems.
- Screen patients for disease risk factors and early signs of illness.
- Develop care plans in consultation with patients and in line with current practice disease‑management protocols.
- Provide counselling and health education.
- Admit or discharge patients to and from the caseload and refer to other care providers as appropriate.
- Record clear and contemporaneous consultation notes to agreed standards.
- Compile and issue computer‑generated acute and repeat prescriptions.
- Prescribe in accordance with the practice prescribing formulary (or generically) whenever clinically appropriate.
- Report and act appropriately on pathology reports, read and act on all clinical letters via DOCMAN, and complete clinical audits.
- Undertake face‑to‑face, telephone, or other consultations as required.
- Participate in safeguarding procedures for vulnerable adults and children.
- Support health promotion and preventative healthcare initiatives.
- Participate in practice meetings and multidisciplinary discussions.
- Maintain accurate, contemporaneous, and comprehensive patient records.
- Support quality improvement, clinical audit, and service development activities.
- Maintain professional development and comply with appraisal and revalidation requirements.
- Contribute to the training and supervision of medical students, GP trainees, and other healthcare professionals where appropriate.
Person Specification – Essential Criteria
- Fully qualified General Practitioner with GMC registration and licence to practise.
- Inclusion on the NHS Performers List.
- Excellent clinical assessment and decision‑making skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
- Commitment to delivering high‑quality patient care.
- Good organisational and time‑management skills.
