Description
The main role of the Secretary is to ensure that the meetings are planned and organised and that the decisions of the Society are recorded and circulated in a timely and effective way.
Tasks
“Council” is the name of the MBB Canal Society’s internal decision-making committee which is usually held online every 3 months for about 2 hours.
Council Meetings
- Set up the quarterly meetings, send reminders along with the online link.
- Write the minutes – generally “cut & paste” as most reports are submitted beforehand.
- Circulate and then revise minutes with any changes. Note: the minutes as revised are accepted as a correct record after 2 weeks.
Other Regular Meetings
- Set up and confirm the following meetings, send reminders with the online link:
- C&RT Operations Meeting with MBBCS held every two months: minutes (Action Log) is currently done by C&RT.
- MBB Canal Restoration Partnership held every 3 months: write, circulate and update minutes (This usually takes a couple of hours every 3 months).
Records
Maintain our archives and keep our existing files up-to-date (Council, C&RT, Restoration Partnership minutes, cuttings, etc).

- IT skills: MS Word, online meetings

- Become familiar with the canal, its partners / stakeholders and key individuals within these organisations
