Responsibilities
- Carry out painting, decorating, and finishing works across guest rooms, public areas, spa facilities, and operational spaces
- Prepare surfaces including sanding, filling, priming, and repairing imperfections to achieve flawless finishes
- Apply paints, stains, varnishes, and specialist coatings in line with Fairmont brand standards
- Conduct regular inspections to identify areas requiring touch-ups, repair, or preventative maintenance
- Support refurbishment projects including room refreshes, public area upgrades, and decorative enhancements
- Maintain accurate records of completed work, materials used, and follow-up requirements
- Ensure safe handling and storage of paints, chemicals, and equipment in accordance with COSHH and UK safety regulations
- Collaborate with the Engineering team to support daily operations and respond to maintenance requests
- Protect guest areas and furnishings through correct use of coverings, barriers, and signage
- Respond promptly to guest-impacting issues such as scuffs, marks, or damaged finishes
- Maintain tools and workshop areas in a clean, organised, and safe condition
- Support sustainability initiatives through responsible material usage and waste reduction
- Communicate professionally with guests and colleagues, maintaining a polished and courteous manner
- Participate in daily briefings and training to stay aligned with operational priorities
- Uphold Fairmont grooming, conduct, and service standards at all times
- Demonstrate flexibility and multi-skilling by supporting additional engineering tasks when required
Qualifications
- Minimum 2-3 years’ experience in painting and decorating within hospitality, commercial buildings, or luxury environments
- Recognised qualification such as NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Painting & Decorating (or equivalent)
- Strong understanding of UK safety regulations including COSHH and safe chemical handling
- Experience with a range of finishes including emulsions, gloss, varnish, stains, and specialist coatings
- Excellent attention to detail with the ability to deliver flawless, luxury-level finishes
- Strong organisational and time-management skills with the ability to prioritise tasks
- Professional communication skills and a courteous, guest-aware approach
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team within the Engineering department
- Physical capability to meet the demands of the role, including manual handling and working at height
