Overview

An active participant in the development of high-level strategy, governance of the charity and limited company and public advocacy with external audiences, and to have an interest in the restoration of 70 miles of canal.

You will be part of an extensive and passionate team of volunteers who are actively restoring 70 miles of the Wilts & Berks canal. Your knowledge of company and charity law will ensure that WBCT complies with its legal, regulatory and constitutional obligations.

What are we looking for?

We are looking for someone with a knowledge of company and charity law (UK); who has strong organisational and administrative skills. Excellent written communication and attention to detail is essential along with the ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgement. A collaborative and diplomatic approach and the ability to work with trustees, staff and volunteers is required.

It is desirable that the successful candidate has experience as a Company Secretary or equivalent governance role in a charity or not-for-profit organisation. Familiarity with Companies House and Charity Commission online portals and an understanding of operational and governance challenges facing volunteer-led charities.

The Company Secretary ensures that WBCT complies with its legal, regulatory, and constitutional obligations, and that governance arrangements support the effective functioning of the charity.
