Electronics Engineer (Avionics & Embedded Systems) Swindon – Full-Time, Hybrid Flexibility £40,000 – £60,000 (flexible for the right experience)
A fast-growing engineering organisation operating at the cutting edge of avionics and unmanned systems is seeking an Electronics Engineer to join its expanding technical team. This is a hands-on, high-impact role where you’ll take ownership of complex PCB and electronics development from concept through to production. You’ll be working in a small, highly collaborative engineering group where pace, innovation, and delivery really matter. The Opportunity This role is central to the development of advanced avionics and electrical systems used in next-generation platforms. You’ll be responsible for designing, building, testing, and refining robust electronic solutions that move seamlessly from concept to real-world deployment. You’ll work closely with cross-functional engineers across avionics, software, and systems integration, contributing directly to both prototype development and production-ready designs.
What You’ll Be Doing Leading end-to-end PCB design activities using industry-standard tools (Altium Designer) Designing multi-layer analogue, digital, mixed-signal, and power electronics architectures Ensuring robust design for manufacturability, assembly, and test (DFM/DFA/DFT) Developing power systems including DC-DC converters, regulation, filtering, and protection Conducting signal integrity, power integrity, and EMC-aware design practices Supporting full hardware lifecycle: bring-up, debugging, validation, and environmental testing Defining test strategies, procedures, and verification documentation Building and supporting test solutions (including lab and production environments) Using advanced lab equipment to diagnose and resolve complex hardware issues Contributing to configuration control, design reviews, and engineering change processes
What We’re Looking For Essential Experience: Proven track record delivering production-ready PCB designs (end-to-end lifecycle) Strong hands-on experience with schematic capture, layout, and hardware bring-up Deep understanding of DFM/DFA/DFT principles Confident fault-finding skills across power, digital, and communications systems Experience defining and executing hardware verification and validation plans Proficiency with Altium Designer or equivalent PCB design tools Right to work in the UK and eligibility for UK Security Clearance Highly Desirable: EMC-aware design experience and pre-compliance testing Exposure to high-reliability or safety-critical electronics (aerospace, defence, etc.) Experience designing test fixtures or automated test solutions Familiarity with IPC standards and best practice manufacturing guidelines Background in fast-paced prototype or R&D environments
