Design Manager / Responsible Engineer

Reports to: Engineering Manager

Contract type: Permanent

Salary: Competitive rate + car allowance

We are working with a leading international engineering and construction company delivering complex infrastructure projects across sectors such as energy, transport, and civil engineering. The Design Manager will manage design and engineering activities, ensuring deliverables are completed in line with agreed scope, programme, and budget. The role ensures that health, safety, environmental, and quality considerations are embedded throughout all design stages, with clear communication to construction and operational teams.

Lead and manage all design and engineering processes across projectsEnsure delivery of design outputs on time and within budgetDevelop and manage the design deliverables scheduleOversee design reviews, stage gates, and risk reduction processesProvide technical support to project teamsEnsure compliance with project procedures and engineering standardsManage design queries (TQ/RFI/NCR) and ensure timely resolutionCoordinate design planning with construction programmesAct as primary point of contact for client design representativesProduce regular design progress and project reportsEnsure quality assurance and document control complianceChair design and interface meetings with internal and external stakeholdersManage external designers, suppliers, and subcontractorsOversee BIM and digital delivery requirementsManage design change processes and associated risksSupport commercial management of design activitiesMinimum 3 years’ experience in civil engineering or similar projectsExperience in both design and construction environmentsCompetent in Microsoft Office and industry softwareSite Management Safety Training Scheme (SMSTS)Knowledge of project delivery frameworks and industry initiativesExperience with digital tools such as Power BIStrong leadership and team management skillsCommercial and contractual awareness…
