Working Hours: Monday to Thursday, 9:30 am – 6:00 pm, Friday 9:30 am – 5:00 pm (1-hour lunch break)

Role Summary

As FAC Technology’s growth accelerates, it is seeking a skilled Composites & Resins Scientist to facilitate the technical development of advanced materials, including resins, adhesives and potting compounds. You will work across all the range of product offerings available at the company, as well as pursuing speculative development opportunities for prospective advanced materials technologies.

This is a heavily practical scientific role, with comprehensive laboratory skills and experience being essential in order to perform the technical development as well as use and maintain the various pieces of processing and measurement equipment available on site.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the technical scientific development of advanced composite materials
  • Engineer bespoke resin formulations according to customer requirements, performing structured iterative scientific research cycles on prototypes
  • Work with the engineering team to concurrently develop and enhance composites processing technologies
  • Use and maintain scientific processing and measuring equipment
  • Collate and organise test data results
  • Maintain an awareness of emerging technologies in the field
  • Identify at a high level potential further materials development opportunities 
  • Work with partner organisations and universities to facilitate research and development
  • Identify and progress applications for research grants to facilitate development

Background & Experience

  • At least 4 years’ experience working in an advanced laboratory environment
  • Experience with scientific equipment for materials characterisation, including rheology, DSC, DMTA and mechanical testing
  • A scientific or technical engineering background
  • Comprehensive knowledge of composites and resins (mainly epoxy thermosets)
  • Masters or PhD in material science, engineering or other relevant technical field
  • Proven track record in scientific research and development 
  • Experience of applying for and securing scientific research grants or related funding
  • Exposure to one or more of the following industries: Automotive (including Electric Vehicles), Aerospace, Space, Defence
