Job Description:

Solar Design Engineer

DCC Energy Great Britain

Location: UK Flexible / Hybrid – Travel to Sites & Customer Locations Required

Base Salary – £44,783 to £51,500 (DOE) + Car Package

Be part of the energy transition

At DCC Energy, we’re helping businesses and communities transition towards smarter, lower carbon energy solutions across Great Britain.

Through businesses including Flogas Britain, Certas Energy and our growing Energy Management Services (EMS) platform, we’re investing in the technologies, services and expertise needed to support the future of integrated energy.

As part of this continued growth, we’re building a central Energy Products & Solutions (EPS) division to support scalable, high-quality delivery across our solar and energy solutions portfolio.

We’re now looking for a Solar Design Engineer to join our newly established Applications & Technical Authority function and play a key role in developing technically robust and commercially aligned solar PV designs across the business.

The role

As Solar Design Engineer, you’ll support the development of commercial and industrial solar PV solutions from initial concept through to final design for delivery.

This role sits within a central technical function responsible for improving consistency, quality and scalability across solar projects throughout the group.

You’ll work closely with applications engineers, sales teams and delivery teams to produce accurate, technically sound solar designs that support both customer proposals and successful project execution.

This is an opportunity to help shape and standardise a growing solar capability within a business playing an active role in the UK energy transition.

What you’ll be doing

Solar design development

  • Producing detailed solar PV system designs for commercial and industrial projects
  • Developing panel layouts for roof-mounted and ground-mounted systems
  • Creating string configurations and supporting inverter selection
  • Optimising DC/AC ratios and overall system performance
  • Selecting appropriate equipment based on project requirements and site constraints

Technical design support

  • Preparing technical design packs to support proposals and project delivery
  • Producing Single Line Diagrams (SLDs), layout drawings and system markups
  • Developing equipment schedules and documenting key design assumptions
  • Supporting technically accurate and commercially deliverable proposal development

Applications and delivery collaboration

  • Working closely with the Applications team to validate and refine preliminary designs
  • Supporting system sizing and performance modelling
  • Providing structured handovers to delivery teams and contractors
  • Responding to technical queries during project execution
  • Supporting the successful delivery of projects while maintaining design intent

Technical standards and continuous improvement

  • Supporting the development of internal solar design standards and best practice
  • Contributing to standardised approaches for equipment selection and system configuration
  • Supporting design reviews and quality assurance processes
  • Helping improve consistency, scalability and technical quality across the solar portfolio

What we’re looking for

We’re looking for someone with strong technical solar design capability and a practical, solutions-focused approach.

You’ll bring:

  • Experience designing solar PV systems, ideally within commercial and industrial environments
  • Strong understanding of:
  • String design and inverter configuration
  • DC system design principles
  • Roof and/or ground-mounted panel layout optimisation
  • Experience producing:
  • Single Line Diagrams (SLDs)
  • Technical design documentation and layouts
  • Familiarity with relevant UK solar standards and industry practices
  • Strong attention to detail and technical accuracy
  • The ability to work collaboratively across technical, commercial and delivery teams
  • A practical and delivery-focused mindset

Experience with tools such as PV*Sol, Helioscope or similar design platforms would be beneficial.

An understanding of LV/HV integration or structural considerations for mounting systems would also be advantageous, but isn’t essential.

Why join us?

At DCC Energy Great Britain, you’ll be part of a business with ambitious growth plans and a clear focus on supporting the energy transition.

You’ll have the opportunity to:

  • Help shape a scalable and technically robust solar capability
  • Work on a wide range of commercial and industrial renewable energy projects
  • Collaborate with experienced teams across engineering, applications and delivery
  • Contribute to standardisation and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Be part of a growing business investing in long-term renewable energy solutions

Diversity and inclusion

We’re committed to creating a workplace where everyone feels valued, respected and able to thrive.

We welcome applications from people of all backgrounds and experiences and are committed to building an inclusive culture where diversity of thought is encouraged and celebrated.

If you’re interested in the role but don’t meet every requirement listed, we’d still encourage you to apply.
