Area Technical Sales Manager – West (Metrology & Capital Equipment Sales | Field-based)

We’re looking for an Area Technical Sales Manager to own and grow our West territory — a field-based role with real autonomy, uncapped earnings and a portfolio of advanced products that sell on results.
The territory
The West patch covers everything west of the M1 (from Leeds down to Leicester), out to the south coast, and includes Wales and the South West, bounded to the north by the M62. Ideally you’ll be based within the territory — think West Midlands, the M4/M5 corridor, the South West or South Wales — for efficient coverage, with a monthly visit to our Market Harborough HQ.
What you’ll do
- Own the full sales cycle for your territory, from first conversation to closing high-value capital equipment orders.
- Build and execute a territory plan that targets the right manufacturers and turns prospects into long-term accounts.
- Get in front of customers — visiting sites, qualifying their applications, and running hands-on demonstrations with real instruments.
- Sell consultatively: understand each customer’s inspection and measurement challenge, then match it to the right Optimax solution.
- Work side by side with our applications engineers and marketing team to win and support business.
- Grow existing accounts while opening new ones, keeping your pipeline and CRM current.
- Hit and beat your targets — and share in the growth you create.
What you’ll bring
Essential
- A track record in technical, solution or capital equipment sales (B2B).
- Confidence running a full sales cycle, including proactive lead generation and cold approaches while on the road.
- A genuine interest in engineering and technology, and the aptitude to learn our products.
- Strong communication, presentation and negotiation skills.
- Comfort with CRM systems and everyday business software.
- A full UK driving licence, and happy to be on the road around three days a week.
- The right to work in the UK (offers are subject to a background check).
Nice to have (we’ll teach you the rest)
- Experience selling into manufacturing, engineering or quality/inspection environments.
- A STEM degree or equivalent technical grounding.
- Familiarity with metrology, optical inspection or measurement.
