A leading Tier 1 Main Contractor is seeking an experienced Project Director to lead the successful delivery of major Department for Education (DfE) projects across London and the South East.
This is a key leadership role within a well-established business with a strong pipeline of secured education schemes, including new build schools, campus redevelopments, and complex refurbishment projects delivered through government frameworks.
The Role
Reporting to the Regional Director, the Project Director will take full responsibility for the strategic and operational delivery of multiple high-value DfE projects from pre-construction through to completion and handover.
You will lead project teams, manage client relationships, oversee programme and commercial performance, and ensure projects are delivered safely, on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the delivery of large-scale DfE and education projects across London
- Manage project teams including Construction Managers, Project Managers, Commercial and Design teams
- Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, consultants, and key stakeholders
- Drive programme performance and ensure successful project outcomes
- Oversee risk management, commercial control, and operational delivery
- Ensure compliance with all health & safety and quality standards
- Support bid activity and pre-construction involvement where required
- Mentor and develop high-performing project teams
Requirements
- Proven experience operating at Project Director or Senior Project Manager level within a Tier 1 or major regional contractor
- Strong track record delivering large education or public sector projects
- Experience managing DfE-funded schemes and framework projects is highly desirable
- Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills
- Commercially astute with strong operational delivery capability
- Stable career history with recognised main contractors
- Relevant construction qualification (Degree/HNC/HND or equivalent)
