Senior Health Care Support Worker – Paediatric Outpatient Department
Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is looking to recruit a motivated, caring, and enthusiastic Senior Health Care Support Worker to join a dedicated Paediatric team within the Paediatric Outpatient Department in Wigan and Leigh.
You will be responsible for providing a range of personal care for patients and supporting a variety of clinical duties under the guidance of a registered healthcare professional. You should have excellent communication skills and the flexibility and adaptability necessary to meet the needs of children and their families while maintaining a safe environment.
The position requires working across six sites within the Wigan and Leigh area and may involve participation in an on‑call rota for senior positions (AFC band 8A or above) if the role is predominantly operational.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist patients with washing, dressing, personal care, beverages and/or meals.
- Assist qualified nursing and medical staff as requested.
- Communicate with all team members to maintain good service provision.
- Ensure all patients meet their hygiene needs, providing assistance appropriate to individual requirements.
- Prepare and support patients during any activity undertaken.
- Alert the registered nurse to any changes in the patient’s health and well‑being or potential risks.
- Undertake observations/tasks such as patient temperature measurement, weighing, and fluid checks as directed.
- Ensure effective use of material resources and supplies within the ward/unit in consultation with senior staff.
- Assist with general cleaning and restocking of resources, and clean and prepare patient beds.
- Contribute to personal development and actively participate in learning opportunities.
- Conduct phlebotomy on children of various ages with appropriate training.
- Act as a QB tester on a rotational basis.
