Job Overview

The post holder will work closely with the Research Audit & Effectiveness Lead to support all aspects of Critical Care data collection and the critical care unit administration. This includes preparing documents in Word/Excel, taking minutes of meetings and providing general office support as directed.

Responsibilities

  • Collect data on all Critical Care Unit admissions for ICNARC (Intensive Care National Audit and Research Centre) from observation charts and Electronic Patient Record (EPR).
  • Enter data onto Medicus system ensuring a full and accurate record of the patients’ admissions.
  • Ensure collection of the unit Critical Care Minimum Data Set (CCMDS) and enter it daily onto the Medicus database.
  • Support the RAE Lead with data validation reports from the Case Mix Programme and amend them when appropriate.
  • Ensure completion of a range of spreadsheets and databases.
  • Run reports from Medicus on activity‑related queries when requested.
  • Attend specified Critical Care meetings and deputise for the Audit Lead in presenting data at the Critical Care Delivery Group.
  • Take minutes at critical care meetings when requested (e.g., Intensivist and staff meetings).
  • Respect confidential information and uphold Caldicott and Data Protection Act principles.
  • Maintain effective lines of communication with the teams, providing regular updates to the Audit Lead and Business Support Manager.
  • Support general administrative tasks within the team as required.

Person Specification

Qualifications & Education

  • ECDL or equivalent
  • NVQ in Business Administration

Knowledge & Experience

  • Previous experience working with clinical audit information
  • Ability to process, analyse and store data
  • Experience of using Microsoft Office applications, especially advanced Excel
  • Awareness of the Data Protection Act and Caldicott Guidelines
  • Use of Excel Pivot tables to extract and summarise data

Skills & Abilities

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively both individually and as part of a team
  • Ability to plan, monitor and organise own workload
