Position Overview
The maintenance technician will be responsible for front‑line maintenance and breakdown response on a rotating shift basis at Convatec’s Rhymney manufacturing facility. This role maintains continuity in production by ensuring manufacturing assets safely operational, using planned and reactive maintenance and continuous improvement to support production targets.
Key Responsibilities
- Maximise the uptime of the Rhymney site by performing planned and reactive maintenance and continuous improvement of process and facilities equipment.
- Use plant metrics such as OEE and plant downtime to drive continuous improvement of process equipment.
- Support the effective integration of new machinery/technology into Rhymney operations.
- Electrical and mechanical problem solving and fault diagnosis across full site.
- Ensure health and safety of themselves and others during engineering interventions.
- Maintain highest standards of housekeeping and GMP.
- Determine appropriate safety standards for new and existing equipment and installation methods.
- Issue permits and host service contractors after training.
- Contribute to electrical specifications for machinery supply contracts and conduct electrical safety evaluations.
- Capture engineering changes, ensure changes are updated to Convatec drawings.
- Support maintenance strategies, controls and recording systems for mechanical systems, plant and machinery.
- Use maintenance management system to log and record breakdowns and corrective actions.
Skills & Experience
- Understanding of clean room or controlled environment controls (HVAC, humidity and pressure cascades, etc.).
- Broad experience in electrical systems, operations and maintenance with proven ability in managing site infrastructure systems and services (HVAC, fire protection, LV electrical networks, etc.).
- Fluent PC skills: Word, Excel, PowerPoint; ideally MS Project, CAD.
- General knowledge of BS7671 (18th Edition) IEE regulations.
- Knowledge of PLCs, SCADA systems, CMMS systems such as Maximo (advantageous).
- Compex training/awareness desirable.
Qualifications / Education
- HNC/ONC or equivalent qualification in Electrical Engineering preferred.
- Experience in managing electrical systems.
- Recognised engineering apprenticeship completed within a regulated industry.
Working Conditions
70% of the time spent on process plant and in a clean‑room manufacturing environment; 30% office‑based. Minimum supervision, initiative, teamwork, and flexibility to react to process changes. Weekend work may be required.
Working Hours
Shift basis: 6:00a.m.–2:10p.m., 2:00p.m.–10:10p.m., 8:00a.m.–2:10p.m. Employees are rostered to work one Saturday and Sunday every eight weeks and call‑out coverage is required.
