Children’s Support Worker (Therapeutic Residential Setting)
Salary: £13 – £14 PH (depending on experience & qualifications) Location: Durham Contract: Temp Shift Pattern: Days – 8am to 8pm
About the Role
Our client is seeking dedicated and resilient Children’s Support Workers to join a therapeutic residential service supporting children aged 7-12 with challenging behaviours, emotional needs, and additional health considerations such as epilepsy.
You will play a key role in creating a safe, nurturing, and stable environment where children can grow, develop, and feel secure. The role involves supporting children with daily routines, emotional regulation, social development, and positive behaviour strategies.
A key part of the role includes school runs and collections, so a driver is essential.
About the Service
The home provides a warm, family‑style environment for 3-4 children, offering stability, structure, and therapeutic support. Children are encouraged to enjoy activities such as TV, games consoles, creative play, and social time, helping them build confidence, resilience, and meaningful connections.
What You’ll Be Doing
Providing emotional, behavioural, and practical support to children aged 7-12
Using therapeutic approaches to help children develop coping skills and positive routines
Supporting children with epilepsy and responding appropriately to health needs
Building trusting, supportive relationships that promote safety and wellbeing
Working as part of a team to create a consistent, nurturing environment
Completing school drop‑offs and collections (driving essential)
Encouraging social skills, independence, and positive behaviour
Participating in daily activities, household tasks, and care planning
What We’re Looking For
Experience working with children, ideally in a residential, SEN, or behavioural setting
Experience supporting children with challenging behaviours
Confidence supporting children with epilepsy (training can be provided)
A positive, resilient, and solution‑focused attitude
Ability to remain calm and supportive in challenging situations
Strong teamwork and communication skills
A full UK driving licence (essential for school runs)
Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare (or willingness to complete within 2 years)
