Position Summary
As a Machining Apprentice at Parker, you’ll learn hands‑on, on site from our skilled machinists, building practical experience alongside industry experts. You’ll also attend college as part of your apprenticeship, developing the technical knowledge to match your on‑the‑job training. Throughout the programme, you’ll complete rotations across different machining and manufacturing areas, giving you a well‑rounded understanding of how we work and helping you discover where you can thrive.
What you will learn
- Manual turning, milling, finishing, and CNC programming, including production preparation techniques.
- Industry health, safety, and environmental standards.
- Reading, interpreting, and working from engineering drawings, specifications, and technical documentation accurately.
- Set up machines, select and install tooling and work‑holding devices, and adjust machine parameters for precision machining.
Your responsibilities
- Carry out machining tasks to the required standards, including setup, operation, and finishing of components.
- Follow health, safety, and environmental regulations at all times.
- Perform quality checks, troubleshoot faults, and ensure components meet required specifications and tolerances.
- Collaborate effectively with your team, communicate clearly, and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
- Attend college and maintain good progress with studies, submitting assignments and coursework in a timely manner.
Ideally, you will have
- A genuine interest in engineering, machining, or manufacturing processes.
- Good attention to detail and ability to follow instructions accurately.
- Strong commitment to health and safety in the workplace.
- Willingness to learn, work as part of a team, and take on new challenges with a positive attitude.
- GCSE grade 4‑9 or an equivalent qualification in Maths, English and an engineering or technology‑based subject is preferred.
