About the role:
A warm and inclusive primary school in Bradford is seeking a committed Behaviour Support Teaching Assistant to join their team. This role is ideal for someone who is passionate about helping children overcome social, emotional and behavioural barriers so they can fully access learning and thrive in school.
As part of the school’s pastoral and SEND provision, you will work closely with pupils who require additional behavioural or emotional support. You’ll help them regulate their emotions, engage positively in lessons and build confidence both inside and outside the classroom. Working alongside class teachers, senior leaders and the SENDCo, you will contribute to behaviour strategies and play an important role in creating a calm, safe and nurturing learning environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Supporting pupils 1:1 or in small groups with behavioural, emotional or social needs.
- Helping children regulate emotions and encouraging positive behaviour choices.
- Implementing individual behaviour plans and support strategies.
- Working collaboratively with teachers to maintain a positive classroom environment.
- Assisting with behaviour management and de‑escalation when required.
- Encouraging pupil engagement, participation and independence in learning.
- Recording and reporting behaviour concerns to relevant staff.
- Building strong, supportive relationships with pupils to promote trust and consistency.
Pre-requisites:
- Experience working with children who display challenging behaviour or have SEMH needs.
- A calm, patient and resilient approach to supporting pupils.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships.
- Confidence using initiative when responding to pupil needs.
- A relevant Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification or equivalent experience.
- Right to work in the UK.
- Enhanced DBS on the update service (or willingness to obtain one).
- References confirming suitability to work with children.
