Job Overview

We are seeking to recruit an appropriately experienced Rowing Coach to provide support to the Head of Rowing and to coach pupils at Senior School stages.The Assistant Head Rowing Coach is responsible for coaching rowing to pupils aged 13‑18 years. They run sessions independently, from planning and implementation to crew selection and organising fixtures. The coach deputises for the Head Rowing Coach in their absence and actively assists with the management and development of the rowing provision at Heriot’s.

The position is for weekday afternoons and Saturday mornings during Term Time, and requires travelling with pupils to away fixtures, including weekends. Attendance at training camps may also be required. Other hours will be agreed with the Head of Rowing.

Ideal Candidate

  • UKCC Level 2 qualification and/or experience of Junior Trialling System (essential)
  • Valid Basic First Aid qualification (essential)
  • RYA Level 2 Powerboat qualification (desirable)
  • Proven track record of success in coaching rowing/sculling up to age 18 (essential)
  • Full, clean driving licence with ability and willingness to drive a minibus
  • Proven awareness of long‑term athlete development through experience and/or qualification in Strength and Conditioning (required)
  • Experience of organising and managing
  • Enthusiastic and inclusive coaching approach catering to pupils of various levels and abilities, motivating participation
  • Reliable and punctual at all times
  • Excellent communication skills with confidence to give clear instructions

Additional Information
