The role:

The Operational Safety Team within the Forensic Directorate—particularly at Rowanbank Clinic—plays a vital role in ensuring the safety of patients, staff, and the wider public. This is achieved by maintaining a secure, supportive environment that balances essential security with the creation of a therapeutic milieu.

Safety operatives must be able to work effectively as part of a team to deliver agreed security standards, policies, and procedures within the unit. They should also be capable of working without direct supervision when required. Experience in a security and/or customer‑focused environment is essential, along with strong customer‑care skills, competence in operating switchboard/telephone systems, and an awareness of disability needs.

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) may be able to provide visa sponsorship for certain roles, subject to the post meeting the relevant eligibility criteria. Sponsorship is not guaranteed and will be determined on a case‑by‑case basis following interview and during the pre‑employment verification process. Duration, Location, and Working Pattern:

Full-time, permanent

Base location – Rowanbank Clinic

Shift Pattern – Long days/Nights working 7 over 14

Key responsibilities:

  • Maintain a safe and secure environment
  • Provide a high‑quality security service within Rowanbank Clinic
  • Act as a first point of contact for patients, staff and visitors to Rowanbank Clinic and ensure queries are dealt with or redirected to the relevant person
  • Ensure that all persons entering and leaving are authorised to do so
  • Ensure all staff, visitors and vehicles entering and leaving the Clinic are monitored and recorded as per Rowanbank Operational Policies, and when physically necessary, are searched and/or escorted
  • Ensure security and safety are maintained through the direct supervision and escorting of contractors and visitors
  • Monitor and respond to system alarms by investigating reasons, initiating responses and monitoring responses where appropriate
  • Assist the Team Leader in streamlining the use of Reception, Control Room and Community Centre
  • Be required to have effective communication and interpersonal skills, and be able to remain calm in emergencies

Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job:

  • Experience working in a security and/or customer‑focused environment
  • Competence in customer care skills
  • Ability to operate switchboard/telephone systems
  • Disability awareness
  • Ability to work within a team and occasionally without direct supervision
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to remain calm in emergencies
