Chief Payments Officer

Nium provides global infrastructure for real-time cross‑border payments, enabling banks, fintechs and businesses to move money instantly worldwide.

The company is headquartered in San Francisco and Singapore, with offices in 14 markets. In March 2026 we delivered the largest month in our 11‑year history, moving nearly $60 B in payments annually.

The Opportunity

The Chief Payments Officer owns the infrastructure that powers Nium’s network. You will define and execute the global network strategy across 190+ markets, build and maintain banking relationships, and lead a team of 25 specialists across four continents.

You will own:

  • Global payments network strategy aligned with commercial and product objectives.
  • Network architecture for domestic collection, local disbursement, settlement accounts, and card issuance at scale.
  • P&L for Nium’s payments network, delivering strong commercial outcomes.
  • Roadmap for next‑generation network capabilities (stablecoin rails, programmable money, real‑time settlement).
  • Operational accountability for network performance and rapid issue resolution.

Global Banking Relationships

  • Own and grow relationships with financial institutions worldwide, from partner identification to go‑live.
  • Build new partnerships in priority markets while deepening existing ones.
  • Represent Nium as a credible counterpart to regulators and top tier institutions.

Team Leadership

  • Lead, coach, and inspire 25 payments specialists across India, the US, Singapore, and the Middle East.
  • Set high performance standards and foster a culture of ownership and continuous improvement.
  • Partner with Regional Product teams to align capability with commercial demand.
  • Develop team depth in regulatory strategy, risk governance, and institutional relationship management.

Risk, Governance & Compliance

  • Strengthen the risk and governance framework across all markets.
  • Ensure operations remain within regulatory policy and best practice in 40+ licensed jurisdictions.
  • Lead regulatory engagements, external audits, and licensing processes.

External Representation

  • Act as Nium’s face to regulators, financial institutions, industry forums, and media.
  • Speak at industry events and engage stakeholders to raise Nium’s profile.
  • Collaborate with PR and Product Marketing to shape external narrative.

What Makes You Successful Here

Experience

  • 15+ years senior leadership in global payments network functions of comparable complexity.
  • Deep expertise in licensing, correspondent banking, regulatory frameworks and strategic market entry.
  • Proven track record of building and managing complex institutional banking relationships.
  • Forward‑leaning perspective on stablecoin, programmable payments, and next‑generation settlement.
  • Hands‑on expertise in treasury risk management, intra‑group funding, and FX/interest‑rate hedging at scale.
  • Background in fintech, payments infrastructure, or a regulated global financial institution operating at significant scale.
