Head of Design and Engineering (North East) – Leeds

About the Role

This is a senior leadership opportunity for an experienced engineering professional who thrives in a complex delivery environment and is passionate about driving technical excellence, innovation, and collaborative project delivery.

What you’ll be doing

• Lead and develop the Design & Engineering function within the Regional Civils business
• Drive technical assurance, engineering governance, and compliance across all projects
• Champion innovation, digital engineering, sustainability, and modern methods of construction
• Support work‑winning activity through engineering input, buildability reviews, and solution development
• Manage relationships with clients, consultants, supply chain partners, and internal stakeholders
• Ensure effective design management processes are implemented across project teams.

Who we’re looking for

• Significant leadership experience within civil engineering or major infrastructure projects
• Strong knowledge of design management, engineering assurance, and project delivery
• Experience managing multidisciplinary teams across complex civils environments
• Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills
• A track record of driving innovation and operational improvement
• Chartered status (CEng) with a recognised professional institution preferred
• Commercial awareness and an understanding of risk management within project delivery.
