Lloyds Banking Group is seeking a Senior Economist to join its Group Public Affairs team, providing high‑quality economic analysis to inform public policy and political engagement. The role focuses on developing evidence‑based insights across key UK policy areas, including growth, housing, infrastructure and financial inclusion, and translating complex analysis into clear advice for senior leaders and external stakeholders. This is a high‑impact opportunity for an experienced economist to shape policy debates and support inclusive economic growth across the UK.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Provide high‑quality economic analysis and modelling to support the Group’s public policy and political engagement work. Your work will evidence the case for positive policy change to governments and external collaborators.
  • Develop evidence‑based insights on strategic policy issues, including growth, housing, infrastructure and financial inclusion.
  • Work closely with policy leads to quantify the impact of proposed policy interventions and develop compelling, evidence‑based narratives to support advocacy and political engagement.
  • Produce briefings, reports and presentations for senior leaders, including the Group Executive Committee and Board, to support external engagement.
  • Monitor, analyse and interpret government publications and data, identifying implications for the Group’s public policy priorities.
  • Engage with external collaborators – including government departments, think tanks and academic institutions – to share insights and build our reputation as credible, thoughtful leaders in public policy.

What You’ll Bring

  • A strong academic background in economics or a related field with practical experience advising and building evidence to inform policy development in government, consultancy or a research institution.
  • Proven ability to conduct economic modelling and quantitative analysis, and to translate findings into actionable policy recommendations.
  • Familiarity with UK political institutions and policy‑making processes, and an interest in the role of private finance in addressing socio‑economic challenges.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex economic ideas clearly and persuasively to non‑technical audiences.
  • A collaborative and entrepreneurial mindset, able to work across teams and manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Intellectual curiosity, political awareness and a passion for making a difference – both for Lloyds Banking Group and the communities it serves.
  • We encourage applications from candidates with diverse experiences. Success will require clear evidence of the above criteria.
