Job Overview
Charles River employs experienced Licensed Technicians to support animal welfare and colony maintenance in compliance with Home Office regulations.
Location & Work Hours
Fully onsite role based in Potters Bar, with expectations to join an on‑call rota for weekends and bank holidays.
Main Duties & Responsibilities
- Monitor and record welfare of all animals within each colony, noting clinical signs.
- Provide water and feed for animal colonies.
- Perform routine husbandry and housekeeping, including cleaning cages, areas, tools, and assisting with isolator recycling following strict hygiene procedures.
- Carry out weaning, sexing, identification, and genotyping procedures.
- Monitor production levels and report to Project Coordinators.
- Prepare and pack orders for customers according to the packing process.
- Follow customer colony maintenance instructions accurately.
- Record required data per procedures and complete all forms, cage cards, and paperwork timely and accurately.
- Provide cover for other team members as needed.
- Participate in training sessions, identify and utilize training opportunities.
- Contribute to continuous improvement and maintain an efficient Quality Management System.
- Adhere to Health & Safety regulations, wearing PPE and liaising with H&S representative where appropriate.
- Ensure a safe and tidy work area.
- Carry out other reasonable duties as requested by Management.

Qualifications & Knowledge
- Essential: Degree level education or equivalent, including Animal Technician Level 2 or other animal‑related qualifications such as IAT or a diploma in Animal Management/Care.
- Desirable: Good understanding of Home Office and accreditation body (e.g., AAALAC) guidelines; Home Office personal licensee training Modules A & B, or a prior Home Office Personal License.
- Desirable: Knowledge and experience of Licensed procedures and previous experience within a similar husbandry/licensed role for biotech, pharma, or other CRO.
