Job Description
Are you passionate about making a difference in the lives of children with special educational needs? We are seeking a dedicated and empathetic Family Liaison Worker to join our dynamic team. This vital role involves working closely with families, pupils, and professionals to provide support, information, and guidance, ensuring that Torbay SEND families have their voices heard and receive the best possible experience.
Responsibilities
- Act as the first point of contact for families, listening to views and giving information regarding local special educational needs support and provision.
- Work alongside the Parent Carer Forum so you facilitate communication between school staff, external agencies, and families to ensure collaborative working and the best outcomes for pupils.
- Organise and deliver workshops and information sessions for parents and carers.
- Assist families in navigating available resources and support networks.
Person Specification
- Experience working with children and families, ideally in an educational or social care setting.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Understanding of the challenges faced by families of children with special educational needs.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

- Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion and confidentiality.
- Competent in using IT systems for case management and reporting.
Knowledge
- Strong understanding of the Local Area SEND Support and Services and its context.
- Knowledge of safeguarding procedures and thresholds.
- Awareness of barriers to engagement for vulnerable families.
Experience & Qualifications
- Either qualifications or experience in working alongside SEND children or families in any sector.
- Safeguarding training (Level 2 or above).
- Evidence of continuing professional development.
- Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle.
- Experience working directly with children and families, particularly those with SEND.
Additional Information
This position is for a fixed term of 12 months from the start date. This post will be carrying out Regulated Activity and will require an Enhanced Criminal Record Check plus an additional Barred List Check. The check will reveal any spent and unspent convictions, adult cautions, local police information and a check of the Adult, Child or Adult and Child Barred Lists. This role requires the ability to fulfil all spoken aspects of the role with confidence and fluency in English.
