Workshop & Party Assistant, art-K Walton-on-Thames

art-K Walton-on-Thames is an art club for children aged 6 to 18 and adults based in Surrey. The club uses a wide range of mediums and techniques to teach artistic styles and 3D projects.

Job Responsibilities

• Assist Art Leaders during the Summer Workshop programme and deliver art-K Parties.
• Assist running workshops and parties.
• Cover and lead workshops and parties on an ad‑hoc basis.

Workshop Responsibilities

• Prepare for workshop sessions, including laying out materials and sharpening pencils.
• Set up and tidy up studio before and after workshops.
• Talk through aims with teachers/leaders and provide guidance to students.
• Demo techniques when required and keep students engaged.
• Ensure learning aims are achieved and that safeguarding and health & safety policies are followed.
• Create a safe, happy, nurturing environment for students.
• Ad‑hoc cover leading workshops.

Party Responsibilities

• Assist Party leader in creating an ambient studio environment and setting up music.
• Prepare projects aligned with the birthday person’s requests.
• Support art workshops for party‑goers, fostering a positive and encouraging environment.
• Support the Party leader with breaks or mini dance breaks during the workshop.
• Maintain cleanliness standards: tidy studio after each session, wash tables, mop floor, clean bathroom, maintain hygiene for safe use of the space.

Requirements

• Currently studying or have completed an art degree or equivalent skills.
• Art skills in a range of mediums.
• Experience teaching or working with children.
• Positive and proactive attitude.
• Live within 30 minutes of the branch.

Salary

£8.79 – £13.64 per hour (depending on age) for regular hours. Party Assistants receive £10.99 – £17.05 per hour for a 3.50‑hour session.

Qualifications

GCSE or equivalent (required). Teaching experience: 1 year preferred.
