Abatec is recruiting for an experienced Lead Planner to join a leading Civil Engineering contractor delivering a diverse portfolio of infrastructure projects across the UK. This is an opportunity to play a key role within a high‑performing team, supporting the successful planning and delivery of complex schemes across multiple sectors.
This is a senior position offering the chance to influence project performance from pre‑construction through to delivery, working across a range of civil engineering and infrastructure projects.
The successful candidate will have a proven background in planning within civil engineering or infrastructure, with experience operating at Senior Planner or Planning Manager level.
Responsibilities
- Lead the development and management of detailed project programmes across multiple civil engineering schemes
- Provide strategic planning input during tender and pre‑construction stages
- Monitor project progress, identifying risks and implementing mitigation strategies to maintain programme targets
- Work closely with project delivery teams to ensure alignment between planning, design, and construction activities
- Analyse programme performance and produce regular reports for senior stakeholders
- Drive improvements in planning processes, tools, and standards across projects
- Support and mentor junior planners, contributing to the development of the wider planning function
- Ensure programmes are compliant with contractual and project requirements
Qualifications
- Proven experience in a Senior Planner or Planning Manager role within civil engineering or infrastructure
- Strong working knowledge of planning software such as Primavera P6 (or equivalent)
- Excellent analytical and problem‑solving skills with a proactive approach to programme risk management
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
- Experience working across multiple projects in a fast‑paced environment
- A relevant qualification in engineering, construction, or project management (desirable)
- Experience working within NEC contract environments is highly advantageous
