Our client is a highly successful investment firm with a growing global presence and a strong commitment to technology as a key driver of business performance. As part of a significant investment in their engineering function, they are expanding their Front Office technology team in Glasgow and are looking for an experienced software engineer to help build and enhance business-critical systems used across the trading environment.
This is a highly visible role within a collaborative and fast-paced team, offering the opportunity to work closely with traders, portfolio managers, and other front office stakeholders. You’ll be involved in developing scalable, high-performance applications that directly support investment and trading activities, while gaining exposure to a modern technology stack and a broad range of business challenges.
The team values strong engineering fundamentals, pragmatic problem-solving, and a willingness to learn. While the role is primarily backend-focused, there is scope to work across the full stack and broaden your technical experience over time.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain software solutions supporting front office investment and trading activities
- Work closely with traders, portfolio managers, and business stakeholders to understand requirements and deliver impactful solutions
- Build scalable backend services using modern Java and Spring Boot technologies
- Collaborate with engineering teams across multiple regions to deliver robust and reliable systems
- Support integrations with internal platforms, market data providers, and external counterparties
- Participate in system design discussions and contribute to technical decision-making
- Help drive engineering best practices across development, testing, deployment, and monitoring
Role Requirements
- Commercial experience developing enterprise software applications
- Experience within financial services, investment management, hedge funds, or capital markets
- Strong backend engineering skills, ideally with Java, Spring Boot, and Python
- Experience working with modern software engineering practices and distributed systems
- Solid understanding of object-oriented programming, software design principles, and system architecture
- Experience working with SQL and relational databases
- Strong communication skills with the ability to engage effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Degree in Computer Science or a related technical discipline, or equivalent commercial experience
- Willing and able to work onsite in Glasgow
Preferred Experience
- Exposure to any stage of the trading lifecycle
- Experience with Python development
- Knowledge of React and TypeScript
- Familiarity with AWS and cloud-native technologies
- Experience with Infrastructure as Code and modern DevOps practices
