Lead the Build. Drive the Vision. Grow with Us.

At The Big Phone Store, we’re looking for a passionate and hands‑on Lead Developer to guide our growing tech team and help take our platform to the next level.

We’re a fast‑growing, independent UK business leading the charge in sustainable tech. Over the past three years, we’ve scaled significantly — becoming one of the most trusted names in the refurbished mobile phone and tech market.

This role isn’t just about writing code — it’s about shaping technical direction, mentoring a talented dev team, and building products that make a real impact on people and the planet. We need someone strong but empathetic, able to motivate the team, get the gears turning, and confidently communicate with stakeholders across the business.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and mentor a small but growing team of developers (currently 3–4)
  • Take full technical ownership of our full‑stack projects (front‑end & back‑end)
  • Set and uphold code standards, architecture, and workflows
  • Collaborate with stakeholders across product, operations, and leadership, confidently articulating technical direction
  • Work on projects that directly support our sustainability mission
  • Help grow and structure the developer team as the company scales
  • Stay hands‑on with coding. We value technical leaders who build alongside their team

Tech Stack

Backend

  • Laravel
  • PHP 7.4 (moving toward PHP 8+)
  • Redis, RabbitMQ, Elasticsearch
  • MySQL

Frontend

  • JavaScript, Vue.js 2, Nuxt.js 2
  • Tailwind CSS

Qualifications

  • Strong full‑stack development experience
  • A natural mentor and problem‑solver who can guide others
  • Comfortable taking the lead on architecture and delivery
  • Solid communication and collaboration skills
  • A builder at heart, someone who still enjoys coding while leading

What is in it for you? We’re proud to offer more than just a paycheck. You’ll be joining a values‑driven company that’s passionate about people, sustainability, and growth, both yours and ours.

Benefits

  • Flexible working hours and remote‑friendly setup (hybrid optional)
  • Apple equipment provided (for UK‑based devs)
  • UK visa sponsorship available (strict guidelines apply)
  • 28 days paid holiday (incl. bank holidays) + your birthday off
  • Extra holiday day for each year of service
  • Expenses‑paid tech conference trips (e.g. Larameets)
  • Pension scheme
  • Regular team socials, events & days out
  • Staff discounts on tech & accessories
  • Free onsite parking at UK HQ
  • Inclusive, diverse culture where everyone’s voice is heard
  • Work on products that support the circular economy & sustainability
