Job Description:

Senior Linux Infrastructure Engineer – London/New York

Position Overview

On behalf of our client – a prestigious, technology-driven global alternative investment manager with a world-class reputation for quantitative engineering – we are seeking an exceptional Senior Linux Infrastructure Engineer to join their core Platform Engineering team in London.

This is a high-visibility, hands‑on technical role within an elite global team responsible for the architecture, security, and stability of the firm’s foundational computing infrastructure. Our client treats infrastructure as a software engineering challenge; they are looking for a Linux internals expert who uses systems programming and network‑level diagnostics to build resilient, highly secure, large‑scale systems that support massive global trading and investment activity.

What You’ll Do Day‑to‑Day

  • Core Infrastructure Architecture: Design, implement, and optimise the firm’s global core Linux operating systems, security infrastructure, and critical network services across distributed datacenters and cloud environments.
  • Security & Hardening: Continuously evolve and harden the security framework of a fast‑paced, large‑scale infrastructure environment, ensuring zero‑trust compliance and secure data pipelines.
  • Systems Automation & CI/CD: Build, scale, and integrate automated software deployment frameworks, configuration management tools, and robust CI/CD pipelines.
  • Advanced Troubleshooting: Function as the ultimate technical escalation point for complex, low‑level infrastructure failures, utilising diagnostic tracing tools at both the host and network layers to maximise performance.
  • Cross‑Platform Collaboration: Partner with global systems engineering groups to solve multi‑faceted challenges involving Windows/Linux interoperation, large‑scale storage, and database reliability.

Who Our Client Is Looking For

  • The Baseline: At least 10 years of experience managing, engineering, and optimising enterprise‑grade Linux infrastructure environments at scale.
  • Target Backgrounds: A proven track record within high‑calibre, tech‑first environments, ideally Quantitative Investment Management, Proprietary Trading, Tier‑1 Investment Banking, or FAANG/Scale‑up Tech.
  • Code‑First Infrastructure Mindset: Advanced, production‑grade development experience in Python is required. Additional experience with low‑level or high‑performance languages such as Rust, Go, C, Java, or C# is highly advantageous.
  • Systems & Protocol Experts: Practical engineering experience maintaining core network infrastructure services, with deep domain knowledge of DNS, DHCP, and Kerberos.
  • Diagnostic & Observability Depth: Exceptional troubleshooting capabilities utilising low‑level network and host‑level diagnostic tracing tools (e.g., tcpdump, strace, perf, bpftrace).
  • Strong Networking & Security Foundations: A solid grasp of enterprise network protocols, information security concepts, distributed databases, and high‑performance storage systems.

Education & Academic Background

  • Degree Preference: A Bachelor’s or advanced degree (Master’s/PhD) in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a closely related technical/quantitative discipline from a top‑tier institution is highly preferred.

Why Consider This Opportunity?

  • Elite Technical Pedigree: Work alongside some of the sharpest minds in the industry within a highly collaborative, intellectually honest culture that prioritises engineering rigour over corporate bureaucracy.
  • Pure Strategic Impact: This is a lean, highly technical team where your designs directly impact global trading infrastructure and investment execution. There is zero legacy people‑management overhead.
  • Exceptional Resources: Our client strips away the red tape, offering senior engineers full technical autonomy alongside the substantial funding and tooling required to solve complex, low‑level challenges.
