About the Role

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated Clinical Psychologist, with a keen interest in supporting children and young people in care and those who have left care, to join the Psychology Team within TESS. TESS is an emotional wellbeing service that offers assessment and a wide range of individual, dyadic and group interventions to Birmingham’s children in care and care leavers up to the age of 25. The post holder will develop and extend the current psychology offer to care‑experienced young people and support those who have experienced early adversity and present with attachment/complex trauma related difficulties, including learning disabilities or neurodevelopmental needs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide a high‑quality psychology service to children in care & care leavers, including those with learning and/or neurodevelopmental needs, and to their families, carers and other professionals involved in their care.
  • Conduct specialist comprehensive assessments, formulations and interventions drawing on a range of psychological models and approaches.
  • Supervise undergraduate psychology students or trainee psychologists as appropriate.
  • Offer psychological support and reflective space to other colleagues in the multidisciplinary team.
  • Provide consultation and training to parents, carers and other professionals or agencies.
  • Shape service delivery, develop and implement new ways of working, and contribute to service evaluation and research.
  • Travel between the service’s office and therapy bases in the city centre or in the community as appropriate (home visits, schools, community bases).

Qualifications & Experience

  • Doctorate in Clinical Psychology and HCPC registration.
  • Experience working with children in care, especially with early adversity, complex trauma, learning disabilities or neurodevelopmental needs.
  • Experience in multidisciplinary and multi‑agency collaboration.
  • Experience in training or facilitating staff or carers.

Working Conditions

  • Based in Birmingham, with travel between offices, therapy bases and community sites.
  • Requires the appropriate level of Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check (Standard, Enhanced or Enhanced with Barred List) as determined by the role.
