We are seeking a Senior Environmental Test Engineer to plan, lead and execute environmental testing and qualification activities across defence and aerospace programmes. The role is hands‑on and focused on translating real operational environments into credible, defensible test evidence.

Responsibilities

  • Develop environmental test strategies working with cross functional teams to mitigate risk
  • Derive and justify test severities from operational and lifecycle environments
  • Plan, execute and witness environmental test campaigns (in‑house and external)
  • Develop test procedures, plans, reports and qualification evidence packs
  • Design and build mechanical test rigs
  • Specify instrumentation, data acquisition and test setups
  • Manage test deviations, failures and re‑test activities

Requirements

  • Strong understanding of environmental testing principles
  • Experience planning and running structured test programmes
  • Experience processing and analysing test data (e.g. MATLAB/Python or equivalent tools)
  • Ability to produce clear, defensible technical documentation

Preferred Qualifications/Experience

  • Experience in fast‑paced R&D or startup environments, with rapid prototype iteration times
  • Defence or aerospace industry experience
  • Exposure to environmental standards (e.g. DEF STAN 00‑035, MIL‑STD‑810, STANAG’s)
  • CAD experience (Siemens NX or Solidworks) – desirable but not essential
  • Good grounding in instrumentation and data acquisition systems
  • Experience working with external test houses
  • Ability to gain UK Security Clearance (not required at application stage)
