About the role

CRU is seeking a Solar Data Analyst to help build, maintain, and analyse the datasets that underpin our coverage of solar technologies, markets, and companies across the value chain. This role combines strong coding and AI‑enabled workflows with high‑quality analysis to support CRU’s Market Analysis and Forecasts team and deliver timely insights to our global client base. As the role progresses, the analyst will assist in enhancing data automation across our battery and energy storage portfolios.

Key Responsibilities

  • Utilise advanced modelling and data techniques to support CRU’s Battery and Clean Technology Services and client engagement.
  • Build an industry profile as a trusted analyst through conference participation, high‑quality insights, and media engagement.
  • Undertake client meetings, demos, and webinars.
  • Respond to client and internal requests for data and answers related to market forecasts.
  • Identify and implement opportunities to automate data acquisition and validation workflows.
  • Support identification of new business opportunities.
  • Organise, update, and analyse key data series that form part of customer deliverables.
  • Contribute to analysis and forecasts for CRU’s Battery and Clean Technology Services.
  • Conduct primary and secondary research, including speaking to and developing relationships with market, industry, and institutional contacts.
  • Build an understanding of solar and battery markets and translate learnings back into CRU’s data to keep it accurate and current.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a subject relevant to market analysis, such as physics, mathematics, economics, or engineering.

Skills & Experience

  • 2+ years of relevant experience (e.g. energy, data analysis, market research) advantageous.
  • Highly numerate, with the ability to interpret, manipulate, and manage large data sets and understand mathematical concepts and processes.
  • Experience in data handling, coding, and model development.
  • Ability to preprocess, clean, and analyse large datasets.
  • Experience running and enhancing models using programming languages, with Python preferred.
  • Ability to utilise AI to speed up data acquisition and processing.
  • Strong critical analysis skills, using both “soft” and “hard” data to identify trends, drivers, conclusions, and insights.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to collaborate with the global CRU Analysis team and share best practice and learnings.
  • Experience in market analysis, forecasting, or related analytical roles.
  • Experience working with solar, battery, clean technology, or similar markets is desirable.
  • Chinese language skills an advantage.
