Household Recycling Centre Attendant

Location: Carrickfergus Salary: £13.69 per hour Hours: 19.5 hours per week

Working Pattern: This role operates on a rota basis and may include weekends, evenings, and public holidays in line with service requirements.

About the Role

We are seeking a reliable and motivated Household Recycling Centre Attendant to support the effective day-to-day operation of a Household Recycling Centre in Carrick.

Working as part of a small team, you will assist in providing a safe, clean, and efficient service to the public, while promoting responsible waste management and recycling practices.

Key Responsibilities Customer Service

  • Assist and advise members of the public on appropriate waste disposal and recycling methods
  • Provide a courteous, helpful, and professional service at all times
  • Respond to customer queries and complaints in a constructive and effective manner

Site Operations

  • Monitor site usage and ensure compliance with site rules and health and safety procedures
  • Maintain cleanliness and general upkeep of the site and surrounding areas
  • Support the Recycling Officer and contractors as required
  • Manage traffic flow within the site to ensure safe access for all users

Waste Management

  • Oversee the safe handling and segregation of waste, including hazardous materials
  • Monitor and control waste containers, skips, and recycling areas
  • Record waste tonnages and complete transfer documentation accurately

Administration and Reporting

  • Complete required operational records and documentation
  • Report maintenance issues, incidents, or customer concerns promptly to management

Additional Duties

  • Operate site equipment in line with training and safety guidance
  • Assist with winter maintenance, including spreading grit and salt during adverse weather

Essential Criteria

Applicants must demonstrate, with specific examples, at least one year’s relevant experience in each of the following:

  • Working in a waste operations environment
  • Working effectively within a team environment
  • Delivering customer service, including handling queries and complaints from the general public
