Principal Structural Engineer
ELB Recruit is partnering with a leading international engineering and infrastructure consultancy to appoint a Senior to Principal Structural Engineer within their expanding Buildings and Infrastructure team.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced structural engineer to play a key role in the delivery of major transportation, industrial, energy and complex infrastructure projects across the UK and internationally. The successful candidate will join a highly collaborative design environment, leading projects, mentoring engineers and contributing to technically challenging schemes from concept through to detailed design.

This Role
Offers the opportunity to work on complex, high-value projects that shape critical infrastructure, while developing experience across a broad range of sectors, clients and international engineering environments.
As a Senior to Principal Structural Engineer, you will take responsibility for delivering structural engineering solutions on multidisciplinary projects while supporting project teams, clients and stakeholders throughout the design lifecycle.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading the preparation of structural designs from concept through to detailed design stages.
- Producing and reviewing calculations, technical reports, specifications and design documentation.
- Coordinating with civil, architectural, MEP and specialist disciplines to develop integrated engineering solutions.
- Supporting project delivery against programme, quality and commercial objectives.
- Providing technical guidance and mentoring to junior engineers and technicians.
- Participating in design reviews, clash detection and multidisciplinary coordination activities.
- Engaging with clients, contractors and external stakeholders throughout project development.
- Ensuring designs comply with health, safety and environmental requirements, including CDM regulations.
- Contributing to business development initiatives and the continuous improvement of engineering processes.
Requirements
- Degree qualified in Civil or Structural Engineering.
- Chartered status, or working towards Chartership, with IStructE or ICE.
- Strong background in building structures and multidisciplinary project delivery.
- Experience producing structural designs using Eurocodes, British Standards and UK Building Regulations.
- Knowledge of structural analysis and design software such as Robot Structural Analysis, ETABS and IDEA StatiCa would be advantageous.
- Familiarity with BIM workflows and common digital delivery platforms including Revit, ACC and ProjectWise.
- Understanding of construction methodologies and buildability considerations.
- Ability to manage technical deliverables while supporting project and commercial objectives.
- Previous experience within rail, transportation, industrial, energy or major infrastructure sectors would be beneficial but is not essential, as training and support will be provided.
