Job Description:

Principal Structural Engineer – Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and delivery of structural engineering solutions across a range of building projects.
  • Act as Project Lead, managing resources, programme, budget and client relationships.
  • Produce and review design calculations, reports, specifications and drawings.
  • Oversee structural designs in steel, concrete, timber and masonry.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant codes, standards and best practice.
  • Coordinate with architects, MEP engineers and other disciplines within a BIM environment.
  • Provide technical leadership and guidance to engineers and technicians.
  • Mentor and support junior staff, contributing to their professional development.
  • Attend and lead client and design team meetings.
  • Contribute to business development, including bid submissions and client engagement.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
  • Significant experience in structural design within a consultancy environment (buildings-focused).
  • Proven track record of leading projects and managing teams.
  • Strong technical expertise across a range of structural materials.
  • Excellent communication and client‑facing skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deliver to deadlines.
  • Chartered Engineer (CEng) status (e.g. via IStructE or ICE).
  • Experience working within a multidisciplinary consultancy.
  • Familiarity with BIM processes and collaborative design environments.
  • Interest or experience in sustainable and low‑carbon design.
