The GLA plays a key role at the heart of London government and is responsible for policy and delivery across a range of areas that make a difference to those who live in, work in and visit the capital – this includes environment, transport, health, sport, planning, regeneration and culture.

Shakira Keddo, newly appointed Assistant Director of HR & OD, is now looking for someone who will support her in accelerating our work to create a more inclusive culture and workforce that is reflective of the city we serve.

This is one of the most exciting HR roles on the London public sector scene. As the Deputy Assistant Director of HR & OD, you will support Shakira in her leadership role as a member of the senior management team. You will have the opportunity to shape our new people strategy, people function and shared services arrangements as we settle into our new City Hall at the Royal Docks. In addition, you will test and develop our new hybrid ways of working and continue to serve the needs of the Mayor and the London Assembly in this unusually short administrative term.

The demands on our HR team to create appropriate services that meet the needs of both the organisation and our workforce have probably never been greater than they are now. You will require determination, imagination, creativity and resilience to handle the pace and the scrutiny of our work. In return, you will have a high‑profile and visible platform to build on all the lessons learnt from your wide‑ranging career in people management and to make a full contribution to work across the wider GLA family to deliver leading edge HR practice.

We will offer you a supportive environment as part of the senior management team, and together, we will drive the changes required to realise the GLA’s ambitions for the people, communities, visitors, learners, and businesses of London and to be an employer of choice for our current and prospective workforce.

This role will be based at City Hall, in the Royal Docks (Kamal Chunchie Way, London, E16 1ZE). GLA staff are hybrid working up to 3 days a week in our offices and remotely depending on their role. As part of this, you will need to split your time between home working and coming into the office.

London’s diversity is its biggest asset and we strive to ensure our workforce reflects London’s diversity at all levels. We welcome applications from everyone regardless of age, gender, gender identity, gender expression, ethnicity, sexual orientation, faith or disability. We particularly encourage applications from Black, Asian and Minority ethnic candidates and disabled candidates who are currently under‑represented in our workforce.

We are committed to being an inclusive employer and we are happy to consider flexible working arrangements. We would welcome applications from candidates who are seeking part‑time work as this role is open to job share. In addition to a good salary package, we offer an attractive range of benefits including 30 days’ annual leave, interest‑free season ticket loan, interest‑free bicycle loan and a career average pension scheme.
