What to Expect
- 4months of full‑time research

Compensation
The expected base stipend for this role is 3,850USD / 2,310GBP / 4,300CAD per week, with an expectation of 40 hours per week for 4months (possible extension).

Qualifications
- Motivated by ensuring AI is safe and beneficial for society
- Interested in transitioning to empirical AI research and a full‑time role at Anthropic
- Strong technical background in computer science, mathematics, or physics
- Thrives in fast‑paced, collaborative environments
- Can implement ideas quickly and communicate clearly
- Fluent in Python programming
- Available to work full‑time on the Fellows program
Strong Candidates May Also Have
- Relevant background for a specific workstream (e.g., economics, social sciences, cybersecurity)
- Experience in research or engineering related to the chosen workstream
ML Systems & Performance Fellows (Sample Responsibilities)
- Project selection and mentor matching
- Build a CPU simulator for accelerator workloads
- Add backends for accelerators on an open‑source project
- Develop on‑demand infrastructure for large‑scale machine‑learning projects
- Create synthetic data or environment pipelines
Unique Candidate Criteria for ML Systems & Performance Fellows
- Strong software‑engineering skills with experience building complex ML systems
- Balance research exploration with engineering rigor and operational reliability
- Collaborate across research and engineering disciplines
- Comfortable working with large‑scale distributed systems and HPC environments
- Experience with training, fine‑tuning, or evaluating large language models
- Adept at analyzing and debugging model training processes
Logistics
- Must have work authorization in the U.S., U.K., or Canada and be located in that country during the program
- Workspaces in London and Berkeley are available; remote work from the U.S., U.K., or Canada is also possible
- Visa sponsorship is not available; applicants must hold or obtain full‑time work authorization independently
- Program duration: 4months full‑time; partial‑time participation is considered on a case‑by‑case basis
