Financial Controller | Technology and Research Organisation
Richmond upon Thames – Hybrid Working (3 days onsite)
Lead finance transformation in a mission-led organisation operating at the forefront of science, innovation, and national infrastructure. This is a senior leadership role driving operational excellence and transformation at scale within the Finance team.
Responsibilities
- Lead, motivate, and develop a high-performing finance team through change (4 DRs and a wider team of 30 people)
- Transform manual, inefficient processes by building a clear roadmap from current state to best-in-class function
- Improve visibility and control across finance operations
- Balance day-to-day delivery with long-term transformation
- Lead month-end, management accounts, and statutory reporting
- Ensure balance sheet integrity and robust financial controls
- Manage audit relationships and compliance
- Drive AP/AR transformation and improve payment processes
- Deliver process automation through Dynamics 365 optimisation
- Partner with senior stakeholders to influence strategic direction
- Promote continuous improvement across finance and operations
Qualifications
- Fully qualified (ACA / ACCA / CIMA) with strong post-qualification experience
- Proven experience operating as a Financial Controller
- Experience with strong controls, processes, and structures
- Experience leading and developing sizeable teams (10+)
- Track record of improving processes, controls, and efficiencies
- Experience working with ERP systems and transformation initiatives
- Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills
- Experience within complex or project-based organisations would be advantageous but not essential
