Financial Controller | Technology and Research Organisation

Richmond upon Thames – Hybrid Working (3 days onsite)

Lead finance transformation in a mission-led organisation operating at the forefront of science, innovation, and national infrastructure. This is a senior leadership role driving operational excellence and transformation at scale within the Finance team.

Responsibilities

• Lead, motivate, and develop a high-performing finance team through change (4 DRs and a wider team of 30 people)
• Transform manual, inefficient processes by building a clear roadmap from current state to best-in-class function
• Improve visibility and control across finance operations
• Balance day-to-day delivery with long-term transformation
• Lead month-end, management accounts, and statutory reporting
• Ensure balance sheet integrity and robust financial controls
• Manage audit relationships and compliance
• Drive AP/AR transformation and improve payment processes
• Deliver process automation through Dynamics 365 optimisation
• Partner with senior stakeholders to influence strategic direction
• Promote continuous improvement across finance and operations

Qualifications

• Fully qualified (ACA / ACCA / CIMA) with strong post-qualification experience
• Proven experience operating as a Financial Controller
• Experience with strong controls, processes, and structures
• Experience leading and developing sizeable teams (10+)
• Track record of improving processes, controls, and efficiencies
• Experience working with ERP systems and transformation initiatives
• Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills
• Experience within complex or project-based organisations would be advantageous but not essential

This is a high-impact leadership role within a purpose-led organisation, working closely with senior stakeholders to drive performance and transformation.
