MI Analyst
Reporting to: Business Intelligence Lead
Location: Hybrid / Horwich, Bolton
We are looking for a talented and detail driven MI Analyst to join our growing MI team. This role is pivotal in delivering high quality reporting and insight to support key business decisions.
Reporting to the Business Intelligence Lead, you will be responsible for the development and maintenance of data marts, ensuring they are robust, reliable, and scalable, alongside delivering business as usual reporting requirements.
This is an opportunity to play a key role in shaping reporting solutions, driving automation, and producing meaningful analysis that identifies trends and patterns across the business.
Key Responsibilities
Delivery & BAU Reporting
- Produce weekly and monthly reports for internal and external stakeholders
- Create and maintain ad hoc reports
- Balance project work with day-to-day reporting to meet deadlines
- Review existing reporting to reduce duplication and improve efficiency
Technical Development
- Develop and maintain data marts and warehouses using SQL Server
- Build and maintain reporting solutions in Power BI (Microsoft Fabric) and SSRS
- Lead automation and scheduling of standardised reporting
- Ensure all outputs align with team and company standards
- Troubleshoot and resolve production issues quickly and effectively
Stakeholder Management
- Gather and document business requirements
- Engage stakeholders using workshops, interviews and other methods
- Promote MI capabilities across the business
- Build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders
- Provide guidance and support to stakeholders on reporting solutions
Team & Continuous Improvement
- Support and mentor junior team members
- Stay up to date with industry tools, techniques and trends
- Recommend and implement improvements
- Act as a role model within the team
Compliance & Quality
- Ensure data accuracy, consistency and governance standards are met
- Maintain awareness of GDPR, Data Protection Act 2018, ISO 27001, and SOX
- Follow departmental standards, processes and best practices
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives
Skills & Experience
Essential
- Experience building reports in Power BI (Fabric preferred)
- Experience with SSRS reporting
- Working knowledge of SQL Server (2016+) and T-SQL
- Experience working with multiple data sources and platforms
- Previous experience in an MI / BI reporting role
- Advanced Excel skills
- Strong understanding of relational databases
- Excellent stakeholder engagement skills
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver to deadlines
Desirable
- Experience with Azure Data Factory (ADF)
- Experience with Power Automate
- Advanced SQL development (stored procedures, performance tuning)
- Data modelling experience
- Experience mentoring or supporting junior team members
- Awareness of emerging BI and analytics technologies
- Understanding of ISO 27001 and SOX environments
Qualifications
Required
- GCSE (or equivalent) in English and Maths
Desirable
- Degree (2:1 or above)
- BCS Diploma in IT or Database Development
- Microsoft certifications (e.g. PL-300, DP-600)
