Job Description

Planner – Water Quality – Leeds

Are you interested in environmental monitoring, data coordination, and supporting essential water quality field operations? This is an opportunity to join SOCOTEC as a Planner, playing a key role in supporting the Water Quality Monitoring team.

In this role, you’ll work closely with field crews, clients, and internal teams to ensure monitoring activities are planned efficiently, safely, and in line with contractual and regulatory requirements.

You’ll need to be confident working independently while also collaborating effectively as part of a wider team. Experience in planning, scheduling, or coordination roles is essential, along with an understanding of water quality monitoring practices and environmental regulations.

Key Tasks

  • Creating comprehensive work packages for field crews to conduct site‑based inspections and installations
  • Identifying and prioritising monitoring sites using client data, MapInfo (GIS), Land Registry records, Flood Risk Maps, and Google Maps
  • Liaising with landowners and business owners to obtain access permissions for rivers, watercourses, and monitoring locations
  • Assessing site suitability and ensuring safe and legal access for field‑based monitoring equipment installation
  • Creating Land Entry Notices (LENS) using MapInfo and verified land ownership data
  • Creating daily and weekly work schedules for field crews using Teamleaf (work management system)
  • Processing incoming site sheets, data, and photographs from field visits and maintaining accurate datasets
  • Preparing reports, supporting performance reporting, and attending internal and external meetings as required
  • Liaising with clients and ensuring contractual obligations for site inspections and installations are met
  • Supporting continuous improvement of planning processes and internal systems (Teamleaf)

Qualifications

  • Previous experience in planning, scheduling, coordination, or operational support roles
  • Strong organisational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Excellent communication skills, including telephone and written correspondence with stakeholders and landowners
  • High attention to detail, particularly in data management, documentation, and reporting
  • Problem‑solving ability, especially in relation to site access and operational constraints
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook) and ability to learn bespoke systems quickly
