More patients are seen in general practice than any other part of the NHS – and the Royal College of GPs represents those doctors who provide that care.

As the UK’s largest medical Royal College, we are the ‘voice’ of GPs on the issues that matter most to them and their patients. With a general election on the horizon this voice is more important than ever.

We have a high media profile and are looking to recruit a motivated and ambitious Press and PR Officer to join our team to help us build on our success. This is a fantastic opportunity for anyone looking to grow their experience and skills in a busy press office.

This role involves handling queries from Health Editors and Correspondents from the UK’s most well-known print and broadcast outlets, working directly with the country’s top doctors, ghost-writing comments in their names and providing strategic advice ahead of interviews. This role will also source, write, and produce articles for the College’s online membership magazine GP Frontline.

You will have press office experience – ideally in a national membership organisation or in a health-based environment – or have worked as a journalist. You will have been closely involved with proactive PR campaigns and crisis communications situations.

You will have excellent verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to work knowledgeably, and confidently with journalists and senior College spokespeople. You will be proactive and take initiative, show excellent judgement with the ability to identify and manage risk, and excel managing competing deadlines.

The successful candidates will share our corporate values. In return, the College offers excellent terms and conditions, great working environment – and a fantastic opportunity to take your CV and experience to the next level.
