Planning Enforcement & Development Monitoring Officer

Location: Nuneaton

Contract: 6 Months

Working Pattern: 37 hours a week.

Pay: Umbrella rate – £22.22 per hour

We are seeking a proactive and organised Planning Enforcement Officer to join a busy Development Control Team in Nuneaton on a 6-month contract. This is an excellent opportunity to play a key role in protecting the built environment by investigating breaches of planning control, monitoring development activity, and supporting the delivery of an effective planning enforcement service.

Working within a collaborative local authority environment, you will manage a varied caseload of enforcement matters, engage with residents and developers, and contribute to ensuring compliance with planning legislation and approved planning permissions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Investigate complaints and potential breaches of planning control.
  • Conduct site inspections, visits, observations, and interviews.
  • Gather, record, and maintain accurate evidence to support investigations.
  • Provide advice and guidance to residents, developers, and businesses on planning enforcement matters.
  • Monitor compliance with planning conditions and work proactively with developers to resolve issues.
  • Prepare enforcement notices and associated legal documentation.
  • Draft reports and provide evidence at hearings, public inquiries, and court proceedings where required.
  • Liaise with other council departments and external agencies on joint investigations.
  • Assist with responses to Freedom of Information (FOI) and Environmental Information Regulation (EIR) requests.
  • Support the wider Development Control Team and contribute to service improvement initiatives.

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Strong communication and organisational skills.
  • The ability to manage investigations and maintain detailed, accurate records.
  • Confidence when dealing with members of the public, developers, legal representatives, and other stakeholders.
  • Knowledge or experience of planning enforcement, development control, or a related planning environment.
  • The ability to work independently while contributing positively to a team.
  • Good IT skills and a willingness to embrace technology to improve service delivery.
