Care Assistant (Days) – Shearwater
Salary: Band 4, £25,948 – £26,473 pa, (£18,233 – £18,602 for 26 hours) plus a 17% shift allowance if applicable.
Rotas
- Early shift – 07:30 – 14:30
- Late shift – 14:30 – 21:30
- Shifts include a 30‑minute unpaid break.
- Sunday and bank holiday working apply.
Responsibilities
- Use a person‑centred approach to look after the physical, emotional, cultural and social needs of service users.
- Provide personal care, assistance at mealtimes and all aspects of daily living.
- Deliver social activities that promote residents’ mental health and wellbeing, improving quality of life.
- Act as key worker to specific service users, monitoring and recording their health and wellbeing using electronic care planning (Nourish).
- Communicate information and concerns to team leaders.
- Manage a diverse group of service users, including those with challenging behaviour.
- Undertake person‑moving and handling duties.
- Prepare light meals and perform light cleaning tasks to maintain infection‑control standards.
Qualifications & Experience
- Patience and empathy, understanding of needs of people with dementia and physical disabilities.
- Good communication in accurate spoken English, ability to converse with users with cognitive impairment.
- Experience in a formal caring role (paid or unpaid), understanding of dignity, privacy and choice.
- Adaptable, flexible, able to work independently and in a team, use initiative, handle emergencies confidently.
- Computer literacy for electronic care plans and e‑learning.
- Commitment to training and development, including QCF Level 2/3 in Social Care and Care Certificate during probation.
